Wilson “Rex” Rexford Collamore Sr., 62, of Wiscasset, passed away peacefully in the arms of his loving wife on March 29. Courageously and stoically he fought a very hard battle with lung cancer.
Rex was born on July 12, 1951 in Damariscotta, a son of Wilson and Bridget (McCormick) Collamore of Bremen. Rex grew up in Bremen and attended Bremen grade school and Lincoln Academy. He spent his life working as a commercial clam digger and lobsterman.
He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Newcastle and a founding member of the North End Co-Op on Westport Island.
He enjoyed the outdoors, his trips up north and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved watching the Boston Red Sox. Rex was never seen without a cup of coffee in his hand. He loved children, animals, and especially spending time with his family and five grandchildren. He had such a loving and giving spirit and organized several fundraisers for people and children who had misfortune in their lives. He left a legacy of love.
He was predeceased by his father, Wilson Collamore; sister, Norma Collamore Kindell; father-in-law, Allen Gagnon; and best friend, Frank Barrington.
He is survived by his loving wife, Cynthia Gagnon Collamore of Wiscasset; sons, Wilson Collamore Jr., PJ Fairfield and wife Noelle, and Christopher Fairfield and wife Haley; daughter, Cassandra Bickford and husband Tony, all of Wiscasset; mother, Bridget Collamore; sister, Kathleen O’Brien, both of Bremen; uncle, Harold Collamore; grandchildren, Parker Collamore, Fletcher Collamore, Bella Collamore, all of Newcastle, Charlotte Bickford, and Isla Bickford of Wiscasset; nephews, Brady and Travis O’Brien; nieces, Heather Leeman and Kyna Kindell; very special niece who was like a daughter, Bridget Green and husband Bob of Wiscasset; and several great-nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held from 4-6 p.m., Fri., April 4 at Daigle Funeral Home, 819 High St., Bath. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Sat., April 5 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Newcastle. A gathering of family and friends will follow at the Church Fellowship Hall. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery in Wiscasset at a later date.
