Winnifred Bates Manson, 96, died Feb. 5 of natural causes at her home of the past three years at Falmouth by the Sea. She was born Jan. 27, 1915.
Winnie grew up in Newcastle and later lived in Sanford, Portland and North Windham. She graduated from Lincoln Academy in 1932 and then went to Nassau College. She retired for many years in Florida before returning to Maine to live at the Lincoln Home in Newcastle in 2002, until she moved to Falmouth by the Sea in 2008.
Winnie is predeceased by her husband Fred Manson; daughter, Mary Manson; parents; sister; and two brothers.
She is survived by daughter, Kay Petri and son-in-law, Richard Petri of Hampton, N.H.; grandson, Scott Petri of Los Angeles, Cal. and wife Sheila; granddaughter, Erika Petri of Portland and husband Chris Clegg; and great-grandchildren, Sarah and Samantha Petri, and Miles, Toby, and KC Clegg-Petri; sisters, Jean Hilton of Rochester, N.H. and Afton Haggett of Damariscotta; and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial service will be held at a later date.
