On Friday, March 29, the Lincoln Academy jazz bands will perform at the 13th annual LA Jazz Night and Dessert Auction in the Lincoln Academy Dining Commons. The auction preview will open at 6:45 p.m. and music will begin at 7 p.m.
Admittance to the event is free, but audience members are encouraged to bid on desserts in the auction. Coffee, ice cream sundaes, and cookies will also be available for sale.
This annual event showcases LA’s jazz ensembles and helps raise funds to support the next band trip to New York City, which is in April 2020. The performance ensembles this year will be the Lincoln Academy Jazz Big Band, the Four O’Clock Jazz Combo, and the Five O’Clock Jazz Combo.
The big band is made up of high school musicians of all ages and abilities. The two smaller combo groups feature students with more jazz experience. All three groups are directed by Lincoln Academy band director and music teacher Liz Matta.
Desserts to be auctioned are created and donated by area bakers, students, and parents affiliated with LA’s music program. As it was last year, this year’s event will be streamed via Facebook live on the Lincoln Academy News Facebook page.
