From the principal’s desk
By Julia Levensaler
As we begin a new school year, I’d like to take a moment to thank families for helping us have a successful start to school. The Miller staff and I appreciate that you are getting your children here by 8:45 a.m. ready to learn, and waiting until 3:15 p.m. to dismiss them. This allows your child to have the maximum time for learning.
We also appreciate that you’re making sure he or she has a good night’s sleep and a healthy breakfast so he or she is ready for learning and making new friends.
We hope you have received all the beginning of the year paperwork and have had time to complete and return it to the teacher. If not, please do so as soon as possible. One of the most important papers is the Emergency Contact Sheet, which lists people who can be contacted when you are not available. If you didn’t receive this paper, please call the office for another copy.
If you didn’t get a chance to attend our open house, please contact your child’s teacher soon to hear about the classroom expectations and how we can work together to make this a great year for your child. Our office number is 832-2103 and the staff email format is firstname_lastname@msad40.org. Don’t forget to check out our Facebook page at facebook.com/millerschoolwaldoboro.
Important dates

Waldoboro Rec youth soccer
The registration deadline for youth soccer is Saturday, Sept. 9. Although this program is sponsored by the Waldoboro Recreation Department, participation is open to all area youth, including nonresidents. The program is based on a developmental sports philosophy, concentrating more on learning and less on winning. The hope is to create a positive environment for children to learn the game of soccer and spend quality time with friends and family. To make this season a success, the program is relying on the continued support of volunteers to coach, referee, conduct fundraising, and set up and clean up the fields. Volunteer coaches are needed at all levels.
Registration fee: $25 for Waldoboro residents and $35 for all others. Make checks payable to “Town of Waldoboro.” Return form and payment to the Waldoboro Recreation Department or mail it to: P.O. Box J, Waldoboro, ME 04572. Registration forms are available at the Waldoboro town office or online at waldoboromaine.org. Forms will be accepted Monday-Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. through Friday, Sept. 8. A last-chance registration session will be held Saturday, Sept. 9 from 9-11 a.m. at the Waldoboro town office. Due to scheduling, uniform orders, and roster management, registrations will not be accepted after Sept. 9.
