SBS’s 5/6 class visits FARMS Kitchen at YMCA
Collaboratively written by Bonnie Bailey, Violet Bailey, Abe Blanc, Tyler Blanc, Aidan Bryant, Willis Colby IV, Natalie Kaler, Alana Nandy, Ella Pendleton, Ally Poole, and Gavin White
On Friday, May 25, our 5/6 class went to the YMCA Farms kitchen. We cooked three recipes from Colonial times with the guidance of Leslie Wicks, Louise Miller, Shannon Bailey, and our teacher. Mrs. Wright. We are studying the 17th and 18th century in social studies class and are currently reading a book called “Chains,” which takes place in the 18th century.
We cooked molasses cornbread, apple tansey, and potato-and-corn soup. “The apple tansey tasted like apple pie but had eggs in it,” sixth-grader Gavin White said.
“It was delicious,” said Tyler Blanc, a fifth-grader.
“Mrs. Wright, this may or may not be my seventh bowl of soup,” said Ella Pendleton, a sixth-grader.
“The soup was yummy!” exclaimed sixth-grader Ally Poole.
“It was delicious,” said sixth-grader Bonnie Bailey.
“We made soup in the kitchen and it was good,” stated sixth-grader Aidan Bryant and fifth-grader Abe Blanc.
“The apple tansey was like a unicorn!” shouted Willis Colby IV.
