Lincoln Academy Headmaster David Sturdevant announced at Saturday night’s Homecoming, that the school has received an anonymous donation to built a new baseball field.
According to Matt Goetting, Head of School Advancement, $500,000 has been donated to the school for the purpose of building a new baseball field and to upgrade the softball field.
The baseball field will be built where the current field hockey field is. The outfield fence will back up to the swamp and tennis courts. Some trees will have to be cut and some ledge blasted away to expand the field.
Lincoln Academy hopes to receive bids in the next couple of weeks, and to begin the project this fall. They hope to be able to play home baseball there in the spring. Goetting said a lot depends on the weather.
Of the donor, Geotting said it was someone “who is very committed to this community and Lincoln Academy. They saw a need to bring baseball back to this campus.”
