Medomak Valley 2006 graduate Zach Armstrong scored his 1000 career point for the University of Maine Machias basketball team on Thurs., Jan. 13 in their loss to St. Joseph of Vermont. Armstrong is a 6’2″ junior forward from Waldoboro. He scored 16 points in the game. He was also named Sunrise Conference Co-Player of the Week.
“He is doing a good job for us. He’s our leading scorer right now,” said Maine coach Brac Brady. “He is our most experienced starter on the team. He is taking on a leadership role for us. He is one of our go to players, definitely our main player.”
“He works really hard. He gives me everything he’s got every day. He works hard in the weight room and has shown great improvement since he got here. He has definitely earned his accolades,” Brady said.
Armstrong scored 313 points as a freshman, 485 as sophomore, and so far this season in 17 games has scored 270 points. He has averaged 15.9 points, 5.2 rebounds, 1.64 steals and 2.41 steals per game this season. He is shooting 45.5 percent from the floor, 47.4 percent for 3-pointers, and 79.1 percent from the foul line.
In 2010, Armstrong was ranked at the top in NAIA Division II; 5th in 3-point field goal percentage (47.4 percent), 7th in 3-pointers made per game (3.126), and 19th in total 3-point field goals made (54).
