Medomak Valley High School Senior Morgan Baum won the State Class B javelin championship at Windham High School June 5. Baum threw the javelin a personal best 111’7″ for the win.
“She’s a great competitor. We didn’t know at the beginning of the season if she was going to be able to throw. She tore her knee up in summer basketball. She worked hard in rehabilitation and in the weight room. It was just plain good old fashioned hard work,” coach George Gould said.
Baum’s winning throw was her second of the day. Her first throw went 77′, before she improved to 111’7″ in her second effort. She was number one going into the finals with the top eight athletes. “No one could get up to what she threw in the finals,” Gould added.
Gwen Moiles placed seventh in the 1600 mile run. Moiles has missed many meets this season with an injury. She ran the race with a personal season best time of 5:45.
Medomak girls scored 11 points in the meet, won by Waterville.
Medomak boys scored 24 points at the State Class B championships, won by Falmouth. Patrick O’Donnell placed third in the 400 in 51.61 and seventh in the 200 in 23.72. Josh Parmenter placed fifth in the 300 hurdles in 42.73. The Panthers 4×400 relay team placed fourth in 3:36.05 with Parmenter, O’Donnell, Devon Sproul and Nathaniel McBrien running a leg.
