Maranacook handed the Eagles a 3-0 loss on Oct. 8 in Newcastle in a physical, hard fought soccer game. Lincoln did not match up well with the Black Bears aggressive style. The Bears scored early on a direct kick. Dakota Duplissie’s DK was blocked by Eagle keeper Tom Masters, and Sean Daigle put in the rebound.
Maranacook keeper Sam Nielsen stopped first-half shots from Bo McLain, Jacob Maxmin and Ryan Wahle to keep it a 1-0 game at the half. The Bears fired in two second-half goals to win 3-0.
The second goal was scored by Duplissie on a direct kick four minutes into the half. The Bears were given three chances to score off the direct kick. Masters stopped the first two attempts, but because Maranacook did not wait for the official to blow the whistle twice, they were given a second and third chance to score from just outside the penalty area.
Jon Fidlay scored the third goal for the Bears with 9:32 to go in the half. The win was the 100th career for coach Don Beckwith.
Maranacook held a 23-13 edge in shots. Masters made 11 saves for the Eagles, and Nielsen 9 for the Bears.
