For the second week in a row, the Boothbay Region boys cross-country team has brought home a first-place award for their school’s trophy case. The Seahawks captured the MVC title last week and this week brought home the coveted West Class C championship plaque. The West Regional meets were held at Twin Brook Recreation in Cumberland on Oct. 25.
When the first five scores for all teams were added, Boothbay and Merriconeag were locked in a tie with 51 points each. The regional title was awarded to Boothbay based on the performance of the two teams’ sixth runner. Kyle Alamo placed 22nd for the Seahawks to beat out Merriconeag’s Graham Roeber in 39th place.
Joey Paolillo led Boothbay, placing fifth in 18:04, followed by 9. Kyle Ames, 18:30; 10. Kyler Carty, 18:31; 14. Matt Burnham, 18:48; 19. Trystan Mercier, 18:59; 22. Kyle Amamo, 19:13; and 24. Daniel Drommond, 19:19.
Ben Allen, of Winthrop, won the race in 17:19.
Wiscasset’s Brandon Goud placed 31st in 19:51, one place out of qualifying for the State Class C meet. Logan Orr placed 85th for the Wolverines in 28:01.
Both Boothbay boys and girls qualified for the State Class C championships, which will be held in Belfast on Nov. 1. The girls collected the final qualifying berth in seventh place. Waynflete won the girls championship, and Hannah Austin, of North Yarmouth Academy, was the West C girls individual champion in 20:44.
