The Boothbay Region girls basketball team won the Mt. Valley Conference championship Friday night in Boothbay. The top seed Seahawks beat second seed Dirigo 38-37 for the MVC trophy. Morgan Crocker drove inside with eight seconds left to score the game winner.
Dirigo held a 40-25 advantage on the boards, but Boothbay won the turnover ratio (8-19) to equalize the exciting MVC match-up.
The Lady Seahawks jumped out to an 8-0 lead in the first quarter and held a 12-6 advantage at the break, led by six points from Crocker and four from Cagney O’Brien.
Boothbay then scored the first four points to the second frame to open up a double digit lead. Dirigo would not go quietly, however, as they scored the final 10 points of the half to knot the score 16-16 at the break.
Crocker hit a three and scored on a Page Brown feed to give Boothbay a five point edge early in the third. Dirigo knotted the score with 6:12 to go, before Durgan recaptured the lead. The Cougars rattled off the next six points to take a four point lead. Boothbay had the final say of the quarter, scoring the last seven points to lead 30-27 at the end of three.
