Boothbay Region High School star runner Chase Brown ran to a second place finish in the State Class C cross country championships, held at Twin Brook Recreation in Cumberland Oct. 29.
Brown ran the race in 16:37 to lead his Seahawk team to a third place finish in State Class C. Brown had the fourth fastest time of the day in a combined Class A, B and C times to qualify him for the New England Championships.
State Class C race winner Matt McClintock, of Madison, was the fastest high school runner in the State in a time of 15:52. Brown has been chasing McClintock for the past couple of years in the Mt.Valley Conference. Brown beat him once in 2010, but this season McClintock has ruled the MVC.
McClintock and Brown beat every Class A runner at the 2011 State championships.
NYA won the State team competition with 74 points, Waynflete was second with 108 and Boothbay third with 11. Tom Brown placed 17th for the Seahawks in 18:11, Alex Owen 22nd in 18:26, Benn Scully 48th in 19:21 and Robert Campbell 49th in 19:22 to complete Boothbay’s scoring five. Also competing for the Seahawks were 62. Kade Smith, 20:27; and 68. Cameron White, 20:35.
BRHS’s Morgan Crocker placed 24th in 23:08, and Maya Schwehm placed 48th in 24:33.
