McDermott and Papa shot a net score of 29 while Olsen and Laird could only muster up a 30. There will be a play off this week between the two teams to decide the winner of the first half. It promises to be quite a battle.
This week will also be the first round of the second half of the season for all teams. The teams of Babcock/Morris and Stadlander/Madan finished the first half in a tie for third.
The teams of Ben Osborne/Hal Smith and Jim Spinney/John Hanna also had scores of 29 for the week. Bill Babcock and Jay Morris had 30, and the teams of Doug Merrick/Bill Fogg, Gary Stadtlander/Clyde Madan and Ian Drewett /Ken Anderson shot a net score of 31.
Dave Lawrence’s drive on hole seven was closest to the centerline. Marty Olsen’s drive was closest to the pin on eight and that team of McDermott/Papa produced low putts of 11, edging out Olsen/Laird by one.
Nick Waltz, last year’s runner up, will be going against three-time club champion, R. J. Ochs. Kyle Feltis, son of Chris, will be taking on Chris Lincoln and Tom Burnham will be matched up against Bill Dagley. As always, it will be interesting to see which two of these golfers will survive to the final match as all eight are very good players. Wouldn’t a final match between father, Chris Feltis, and son, Kyle, be something to watch?
Twenty-four golfers will soon be competing for the very popular President’s Cup Championship including last year’s winner, Sam Graves, and runner up, K. Feltis. With this large number of competitors, tournament play will be going on for several weeks.
The much-anticipated annual match between General Manager Paul Richmond and the confident, young upstart, K. Feltis will take place next week. I am looking forward to watching this battle as I have not done so in the past.
Will the brash K. Feltis use a baseball bat, a hockey stick, a tennis racket or some other instrument to challenge the conventional player, Paul, who will be using regular golf clubs? Obviously our general manager has little time to hone his golfing skills and many of us are pulling for him to upset cocky Feltis. If you want to watch this fascinating match, call the Pro Shop at 563-3938 for the scheduled tee time.
Stay tuned for the winners of this week’s Member/Guest Tournament to be covered in next week’s Chatter.
The next five weeks of the season will indeed be very interesting and exciting.
