The Coastal Christian School soccer team finished its inaugural season in the Maine Christian School Sports League last Thursday at the championship game. Held at the University of Maine of Augusta field, the game was the final game of a spectacular season for the Rams.
During the regular season, the Rams had a record of 10-0. On Oct. 26, CCS won the quarterfinal game, 5-4, against Central Maine Christian Academy of Lewiston.
Rams’ goals were scored by sophomores Jonah Cronkhite and Mason Vermilion and three by senior Juan Jose Cabrera. The Rams proceeded to the semi-final game on Oct. 28 against Temple Academy of Waterville, beating them 4-2.
Rams’ goals were scored by seniors Jeremiah Dickinson and two by Juan Jose Cabrera and one by 8th grader Josh Tracey.
With the win, the Rams advanced to the finals at Augusta against Pine Tree Academy of Freeport. The game ended after regulation in a 1-1 tie with the Rams’ sole goal scored by senior Jeremiah Dickinson.
After two scoreless sudden death overtimes, the game was determined by penalty kicks. Freshman Matt Brown held firm as goal tender and senior Mark Tracey scored one goal for the Rams but it wasn’t enough. Pine Tree prevailed and was deemed champion with Coastal Christian School as runner up. The Coastal Christian Rams ended their season 12-1.
