Shania Creamer, a 15-year-old sophomore at Lincoln Academy, performed in several figure skating numbers, including a solo at the Skating Club of Brunswick’s “That’s Entertainment” figure skating extravaganza March 20. Creamer has been skating for nine years.
The show was a delight to watch as skaters from age one to 60-plus took to the ice with an impressive array of talent, supplemented by an equally impressive array of props.
Creamer also performed in the opening “Planets Revolve” number, the “Twilight Zone,” “Theater on Ice,” and in the advance freestyle group in “Holding Out For a Hero.”
The show was held at the Sydney J. Watson Arena on the Bowdoin College campus in Brunswick.
Two themes were incorporated into the show. Outer Space was the theme of the first act, and Enchanted, the second. Skaters performed to music supporting the themes, including music from movies such as “Beauty and the Beast,” “E.T.,” “Star Wars,” “Alice in Wonderland” and TV shows such as “Twilight Zone,” and “Dora the Explorer.”
This year’s show incorporated skaters from the Skating Club of Brunswick and the Bowdoin College Skating School.
A highlight of the show was a performance by Olympic skaters Melissa Gregory and Denis Petukhov, who have been skating since age eight.
They have skated together since 2000 and their competitive career took them to the 2006 Winter Olympics in Torino, Italy. They are six time U.S. National medallists and are U.S. Olympic Committee’s 2010 Rings of Gold award winners. Petukhov was selected to the ABC television show Skating with the Stars.
Gregory and Petukhov put on a skating seminar for the club in January, that Creamer attended.
