The Coastal Hoops Basketball Program held a Dodgeball Tournament as a fundraiser at Bristol School on Sat., Feb. 26. There were three age division brackets, including the Youth Division (grades 5-8), High School (Grades 9 -12) and Adult (over 18 and out of high school). Fifteen teams participated in the tournament.
Proceeds from the tournament will help with expenses for the Coastal Hoops basketball program. There are almost 100 kids in the Coastal Hoops program, directed by Tim Feltis. There are four girls’ teams, coached by Feltis (high school and grade 5 & 6), Holly Pendleton (8th grade), and Laurie Stiles (7th grade); and four boys’ teams, coached by Ryan Ball (8th grade), John Gosselin (7th grade), Chris McKenney (6th grade) and Daniel Wall (5th grade).
Feltis said the main goal of starting up Coastal Hoops again was to “get the kids into one program. It allows us to put all the teams under one insurance policy.” Many practice facilities require teams to carry insurance. The program provides “experienced coaching with the same philosophy.” The high school and middle school coaches are involved, but coach at a different level. “It allows the kids to become familiar with their basketball coaches,” Feltis added.
The event was attended by many friends, families and fans as each team vied for their division championship. The Youth division winners were the Purple Cobra consisting of team captain Greg Anderson, Brandon Salerno, Kaleab Buchwalder, Alex Organ, Jimmy Benner and Cate Organ. The High School Champions were the Taylor Gang, consisting of team captain Bo McLain, Dalton Leeman, Dylan York, Jalen Lincoln, Dylan Leavitt and Danielle Pierce. Adult Champions were team Colby & Gale, consisting of team captain Troy Sawyer, Elliott Colby, Ryan Ball, Matt Poole, Mike Prentice and Carmen Reed.
The consolation prize of a Toilet Bowl trophy was awarded to the team in the adult division that showed the most spirited competiveness. That honor went to team 04573 consisting of Team Captain Laurie Stiles, Tim Stiles, Adam Gamage, CJ Pendleton, Topher Mallory and Skip Gamage.
The event was a blast to play and to watch as a spectator. Event coordinators Tim & Danielle Feltis, would like to thank Bristol School, Colby & Gale, Renys and Samoset Restaurant for their support of this event. A special thank you goes to Melanie Pendleton and Lynne Brackett for running concessions all day. Also, special thanks to Samoset Restaurant for hosting the Adult Division Trophy presentation and awards after the event’s end.
“After receiving so much support and enthusiasm we hope to make this an annual fundraiser for the Coastal Hoops Basketball Program,” Feltis said. Coastal Hoops is a program dedicated to teaching local area youth and teenagers the game of basketball.
