Boothbay Country Club announced recently that Dr. Jerry Elwell is the new Boothbay Golf Academy Director of Instruction.
Elwell played on the PGA tour early in his career and set 14 course records from 1954-1970.
He is quoted on his website as saying, “I used to teach golf, now I teach people how to play golf.” He is the author of several instructional books, and has been published in the first PGA Journal of Instruction and in PGA Magazine.
Elwell has served on three national PGA committees, two PGA Section Board of Directors, and has created two PGA Section Teaching Committees.
Four of his students have won major championships, and seven of his students are Hall of Fame members. His students include pros Billy Casper, Johnny Miller, Nancy Lopez and Gary Player. Celebrity students include Bob Hope, Former President Gerald Ford, José Canseco and Apolo Anton Ohno and more.
