Lincoln Academy baseball squeaked out a 4-3 nine inning win in Raider territory Monday afternoon. Brandon Reilly was huge on the mound for the Eagles, striking out 21 (2H,4B) in nine innings of work. Reilly also went two for three at the plate (2RBI) and was intentionally walked twice.
“I can’t speak highly enough of Brandon. He did a good job carrying the team on his shoulders,” coach Greg Rice said.
Lincoln took a 3-0 lead in the top of the second. Everett Martin reached on an error, and Stephen Quinlan and Bo McLain drew back-to-back walks to load up the bases for a two run single to Reilly and RBI error put in play by Merritt Wotton.
Oak Hill tied the game in the bottom of the third on two walks and RBI singles to Josh Martin and Cam Morin, and an RBI fielder’s choice. Reilly did not surrender another hit over the final six innings.
Reilly and Oak Hill starter Martin battled through four scoreless innings, forcing extra innings. Lincoln scored the game winner in the top of the ninth. Wotton hit a lead off single, stole second, went to third on a Jeff Lamb sacrifice fly and scored on a Dalton Leeman sacrifice fly. “Those sacrifice flies at the end of the game were huge,” Rice said.
Hitting for Lincoln were Reilly with two and Quinlan, Wotton and Leeman one each.
Lincoln 6 – Maranacook 1
The Eagles tamed the Black Bears Friday in Newcastle, 6-1. Brandon Reilly got the start and went three innings (0R,0H,K,3B), Dalton Leeman collected the win (3I,3H,3B,3K,1R), and Andy Bartlett pitched one inning (1K).
The Eagles got out of bases loaded jams in the second and third innings. First baseman Everett Martin fielded a ground ball and threw to the plate to cut down the lead runner in the second. Reilly made a good play at third with two runners on, and Stephen Quinlan turned a double play in the seventh.
“Merritt Wotton had a big catch in the seventh in center field. Merritt has come a very long way as an outfielder,” coach Greg Rice said. Maranacook stranded 11 base runners in the loss.
Lincoln scored two runs in the first. Quinlan doubled, Kyle Scherer reached on an error, Reilly hit an RBI single, Merritt Wotton reached on an error and Jeff Lamb hit an RBI single.
The Eagles added three runs in the second. Bo McLain singled and scored on a Scherer single, Reilly hit an RBI double and Wotton an RBI single. They added a run in the fourth on a solo homerun to Reilly. The blast was initially called foul, but after an appeal, the hit was ruled a homerun.
Maranacook scored their lone run in the fifth on a solo homerun to Eben Ballard.
Hitting for Lincoln were Reilly with a homerun, double and single, Quinlan a double and single, Lamb 2 singles, and Scherer, Wotton, Leeman, Martin and McLain a single each. Hitting for Maranacook were Ballard with a homerun, and Cameron Guild with 2 singles.
Lincoln 11 – Mt.View 0
Lincoln Academy baseball crushed Mt.View on April 27, 11-0. Three pitchers combined in the shutout. Starter Alex Cosgrove collected the win (4I,4H,1B,7K), and Dalton Leeman (2I,1B,5K) and Brandon Reilly (1I) pitched in relief.
The Eagles scored three runs in the first on a double to Stephen Quinlan, RBI triple to Reilly and RBI double to Merritt Wotton. Jeff Lamb singled in Quinlan in the third. They added two runs in the fifth on singles to Reilly, Wotton (RBI) and Leeman (RBI). Bo McLain drew a walk in the sixth to set up a pair of RBI singles to Quinlan and Wotton.
Lincoln added four runs in the top of the seventh. Brandon Bonney was hit by a pitch and McLain singled to set up RBI singles to Kyle Scherer and Reilly and a two run triple to Wotton.
Hitting for Lincoln were Wotton with a triple, double and two singles (5RBI), Reilly a triple, double and single, Quinlan a double and single, and Scherer, Lamb, Everett Martin, Mardy Alden and McLain a single each. Hitting for Mt. View were Turner, Moulton, Reynolds and McGray with a single each.
