Lincoln Academy’s softball team picked up wins over Nokomis, Camden and Waterville this week to improve to 7-1.
The Lady Eagles defeated Nokomis 9-4 on Monday in cold windy conditions in Newcastle. Amelia Pennington collected the win (4K,0B,10H). Adams took the loss for Nokomis.
Nokomis took a 1-0 lead in the top of the 2nd. Lincoln rallied for five runs in the bottom of the frame to take the lead for good. Stephanie Oliver and Olivia Osbourn reached on errors to set up RBI singles to Marni Jones and Kiana Santos hit RBI singles and Bolster drove in two runs on an error then scored on an error.
Lincoln added two runs in the 3rd when Pennington and Laura Soohey singled to set up an RBI double to Anna Budrow and RBI single to Jones. They added a run in the fifth when Katherine Bolster hit a sacrifice fly scoring Osbourn. Budrow doubled home Pennington in the sixth.
Budrow made a running catch in left field and Bolster a nice catch at shortstop to rob Nokomis of two hits in the game.
Hitting for Lincoln were Budrow with two doubles, Pennington, Soohey and Jones two singles each and Santos a single. Hitting for Nokomis were Vaillancourt three hits, Wyman two and Shaw, Kentwebber, Manson, Wyley and Shafer one each.
Lincoln scored the winning run in the 1st inning when Katherine Bolster was hit by a pitch, moved over on a Kassie Lincoln sacrifice bunt and scored on a passed ball. They added two in the 3rd. Lincoln walked, Pennington singled and they scored on a passed ball and an error. The Eagles added two runs in the 4th on a Morgan Scavetta single, walks to Lincoln, Pennington and Laura Soohey, and an error. Lincoln scored one run in the 6th on singles to Pennington, Soohey and Budrow (RBI); and two runs in the 7th when Scavetta singled, Lincoln was hit by a pitch, and both scored on a Pennington double.
Lincoln had the defensive play of the game. “She made an outstanding backhand play and flicked the ball with her glove to second base,” coach Katie Mainville said.
Hitting for Lincoln were Pennington a double and two singles, Soohey with a double and single, Budrow two singles, and Olivia Osbourne, Stephanie Oliver and Shania Creamer a single each. Hitting for Waterville were Pellerin two singles and Dixon, Jakes and Gardiner one each.
Lincoln scored a run in the 3rd when Marni Jones hit a leadoff single, moved over on a Budrow sacrifice bunt and Kiana Santos error and scored on a Bolster ground out. They added three runs in the 6th on singles to Pennington, Soohey, Oliver (RBI) and Budrow (RBI). Soohey scored on a throwing error on Oliver’s hit.
Hitting for Lincoln were Pennington and Soohey with two each, and Jones, Budrow, Oliver and Bolster one each. Hitting for Camden were Peats and Carlson with a single each.
Jones was the defensive player of the game. “She had a couple of good catches at third and had four assists. Olivia (Osbourne) caught a really hard hit ball,” as well, Mainville added.
