Lincoln Academy’s 4×800 relay team shaved nine seconds off the school record in their second place finish at the
State Class B track and field championships, held at Brewer High School June 7. The Eagles finished in 8:25.41,
behind State champions Ellsworth.
Running a leg on the record breaking relay were Nick Smelcer, Seward Matel, Julian Frink, and Alex Organ.
Lincoln’s 4×800 relay team qualified and will compete at the New England championships on June 14 at Bridgewater
State University in Bridgewater, Mass.
Waterville won the State B title. Lincoln placed 16th with 11 points. The top seven places collected team points
at the championship meet.
Organ medalled at the State meet, placing fifth in the 400 with a new Lincoln Academy school record time of 52.58.
Seward Matel ran to a top 10 finish in the 800 with a personal best time of 2:08.87. Smelcer also qualified in the
800.
Medomak Valley’s J.P. Lobley just missed medalling in the triple jump, placing eighth (39’4.25″). Maty Moore had a
top 10 finish in the high jump (5’8″). Other Panthers qualifying and competing at the State meet include Ethan
Morin (300 hurdles), David Herron (200), Andrew Cronk (200), and Nick York (shot put).
