Eleventh ranked Lincoln Academy boys’ basketball team upset 6th seed Greely 55-54 Tuesday night in a West Class B preliminary match-up to advance to the West Class B quarterfinals in Portland on Sat., Feb. 18 at 11 a.m. to take on 3rd seed Yarmouth.
Jalen Lincoln scored a 3-pointer at the buzzer to lift the Eagles to victory. Lincoln netted 11 of 15 free throw attempts, including going 8 for 11 in the pivotal 4th quarter.
“Merritt Wotton hit a couple of big ones”, and Lincoln and Dylan Leavitt scored 2 each, and Nic Phinney and Ryley Leavitt one each, coach Chris McKinney said.
Greeely led 12-8 at the quarter, 25-21 at the half and 40-33 at the end of three. Lincoln went with their press in the 2nd half. “The kids did a great job,” McKinney said of the press.
Lincoln netted 22 in the final period with a balanced offensive attack, led by R. Leavitt, Bo McLain and Lincoln with 5 each and D. Leavitt 4.
Scoring for Lincoln were J. Lincoln 15 (10R,6A), D. Leavitt 14 (4R), R. Leavitt 13 (10R), McLain 8 (8R), Wotton 4 (4R,2A), and Phinney 1 (2R,2S). Scoring for Greely were Liam Maker 15, Bailey Train 13, Michael McDevitt 13, Nick Clark 6, Brad McKenney 5 and Cooper Allen 2.
