The fourth annual Matthew Budrow Memorial basketball tournament was held at Lincoln Academy on Dec. 3. Budrow was a multi-sport athlete at Lincoln Academy who went on to play basketball for Plymouth State before returning to Lincoln Academy to coach JV boys’ soccer and varsity girls’ basketball.
Budrow was tragically killed in a snowmobile accident a few weeks after completing his first varsity season with the Lady Eagles.
Eight pre-season games were held in the tournament.
Erskine 45 – Lincoln 33
Scoring for the Panthers were Vose 27, Amanda Hendrickson-Belloguet 8, Mallory Robbins 4, Heidi Obuchon 4, Emily Leach 3, Elise Wallace 2, Taylor Simmons 2, and Mallory Conary 2. Scoring for the Blue Eagles were Humphrey 12, Bond 12, Tjelmeland 10, Killegan 7, C-Smith 6, Peabody 2, Courtney Bonsant 2 and Chase and Hannah Bridges 1 each.
Medomak nipped Class A Brunswick by a basket in game five. Medomak led 16-8 at the quarter, 30-19 at the half and 41-34 at the end of three. The Panthers led by as many as 12 in the final quarter, but the Dragons roared back on 3-pointers and strong rebounding.
Scoring for Medomak were Vose 26 (3R,6S,5A), Wallace 8, H-Belloguet 6, Leach 5, Obuchon 4, Robbins 2, Conary 2 (5R,3S,3A), Simmons 2 and Desiree Benner 1. Scoring for Brunswick were Liz Faulkner 20 (9R), Lyse Henshaw 13, Anna Dimick 6, Julia Champagne 5 (9R) and Libby Alfond 2 (10R).
The Eagles stayed with the Dragons in 1st quarter action, trailing by one 14-13 at the end of the first eight minutes of play. Brunswick out scored the Eagles 18-7 in the 2nd frame then coasted to an easy victory in game seven of the tournament.
Scoring for Brunswick were Carlton 12, Champagne 10, Alfond 8 (11R), Henshaw 8, Libby 6, Dearloom 5, Dimick 4, Faulkner 4 and Hampton 4. Scoring for the Eagles were Genthner 8 (7R), Merissa Look 7, Oliver 6, Pinkham 4, Peaslee 3, Pierce 3 and Hughes 2 (4R).
Lincoln 47 – Erskine 40
Scoring for Lincoln were Dylan Leavitt 15, Jalen Lincoln 10, Ryley Leavitt 9, Seward Matel 7, Tom Masters 2, Merritt Wotton 2, AJ Oliver 2 and Caleb Farrin 1. Scoring for Erskine were Tom Grady 13, Tyler Belanger 7, Todd Jones 4, Jory Humphrey 4, Caleb McGuire 3, Damon Bailey 2 and Ryan Pulver 2.
