Lincoln Academy’s boys’ soccer team opened their KVAC season with a 3-1 win over Oak Hill Friday night. The Eagles three starting freshmen figured in on all three goals. Freshmen Sawyer Pinkham and Devin Scherer scored a goal each, and Bo McLain scored on a deflected shot from freshman Kaleab Buckwalder.
“I really liked their intensity. We came ready to play. The defense played well which allowed the freshmen” to shine, coach KJ Anastasio said.
Lincoln dominated the 1st half with a 16-0 advantage in shots. Pinkham broke free down the right wing after out-sprinting a Raider defender and scored on a long ball eight minutes into the game.
The Raiders came out of the halftime break on fire, getting off the first seven shots of the half, all rejected by Merritt Wotton in net.
McLain made it a 2-0 ball game mid-way through the half when he crashed the net to put in a rebounded shot from Kaleab Buckwalder on the left wing.
Jamiel Kidd put Oak Hill on the boards with 13 minutes to play. Nic Phinney and Ryan Peters stopped a Raider breakaway two minutes later to prevent a tying shot. Devon Scherer put the game out of reach with 9:25 to go when he found net after working a give and go with Tom Masters in the center of the field.
Lincoln held a 33-8 edge in shots. Wotton made five saves for the Eagles and Sam Morin 19 for the Raiders.
