Hampden boys and girls won twin KVAC cross country titles Saturday at Cony High School in Augusta. Two days of rain created slick running conditions and a cold wind added to the misery.
Erskine Academy’s Eben Hodkins won the boys’ title in 17:31, beating out Hampden’s Evan Piccirrillo by 11 seconds. Hampden won with 42 points, followed by 2. Winslow, 60; 3. Maranacook, 66; 4. Erskine, 101; 5. Lincoln Academy, 149; 6. Medomak Valley, 212; 7. Belfast, 215; 8. Waterville, 217; 9. Camden, 240; 10. Gardiner, 262; 11. Leavitt 293 and 12. MCI 343.
Luca Keushguerian led Lincoln with a 19th place finish in 19:37. Will Hadden placed 21st in 19:40; Shawn Grooms 32nd in 20:16; Nicholas Smelcer 36th in 20:22; Alex Tomasello 41st in 20:51; Julian Frink 48th in 21:20 and Alex Hadik 52nd in 21:37.
Medomak boys were led by Nick Anderson, who placed 22nd in 19:40. Joe Murphy took 38th for the Panthers in 20:23; Ian Rixon 50th in 21:28; Brendon O’Donnell 51st in 21:36; Ivan Johnson 54th in 21:39; Quinton Vannah 55th in 21:47 and Alexander Casas 64th in 22:26.
Gwen Moiles led the Lady Panthers with a 7th place finish in 22:19. Megan Wyllie was 10th in 22:44; Alyssa Griggs 27th in 24:09; Jordan Hopkins 28th in 24:12; Jocelyn Thames 19th in 24:22; Shannon Staples 31st in 24:35, and Heidi Harris 33rd in 24:49.
Lincoln Academy had only four runners so did not compile a team score. Hannah Fake led the Lady Eagles with a 15th place finish in 23:23. Teiga Martin was 26th in 24:01; Katrina Belle 44th in 25:54 and Phoebe Arnold 63rd in 28:36.
Winslow won the boys’ JV race with 43 points. Lincoln Academy was 11th. Tim Wells placed 47th for the Eagles in 22:53, followed by 50. Josh Richards, 23:06; 55. Kevin Sandefur, 23:15; 68. Daniel Mayer, 23:59 and 98. Mat Poland, 25:59.
Medomak’s Lance Parker placed 45th in 22:49, and Mike Gilman 66th in 23:54.
