Central Maine Community College hosted the University of Maine Augusta Monday night and won 105-78 to pick up their fifth win of the season (5-14). Six Lincoln County athletes play for the two teams, including Wiscasset graduates sophomore Nick Hinkley and freshman Jason Dennison who play for the CMCC Mustangs; Lincoln Academy graduates junior Dave Prior and Gage Peaslee who play for the UMA Moose; and Erskine Academy juniors brother and sister from Whitefield, Ashley Peaslee and Martin Campbell, who play for UMA.
The junior captain was injured early in the season, and in her first week back, Peaslee was named Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) Player of the Week on Nov. 22. In two games Peaslee scored 37 points and had 15 assists, 17 steals and 11 rebounds. She was also named player of the week for Dec. 20. In the YSCC she is ranked first in assists (5.167), second in double doubles, fourth in free throw percentage (.692) and fifth in scoring (13.64)
In UMA’s 61-21 win over Unity on Jan. 20, Peaslee scored 15 points (10S,6R); she scored 17 in UMA’s 42-41 win over UMaine Fort Kent on Dec. 18; 13 (8S,6A) in UMA’s 67-39 win over Vermont Tech on Dec. 12; 17 (10S,6R,6A) in UMA’s 60-43 win over EMCC on Dec. 10; 16 (7S,5A) in UMA’s loss to CMCC on Dec. 8; 20 (10S) in UMA’s 65-28 win over Unity in early December; 13 (4S,7R) in UMA’s one point loss to NHTI on Nov. 23; 18 (8A,9S) in UMA’s loss to Machias on Nov. 21; 19 (7S,7R) in UMA’s win over SMCC on Nov. 17; and 17 (9R,6S) against Machias on Nov. 4.
Sophomore starter and captain Nick Hinkley (WHS ’09) is the floor general of the Mustangs. He has averaged almost 10 points a game for CMCC. His biggest game of the season came in CMCC’s 75-73 win over Northern Essex, when he scored 25 points and had 9 assists and 5 rebounds. In the Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) he is ranked fifth in free throw percentage (.745) and fifth in double doubles.
