Undefeated Leavitt handed Medomak Valley girls’ basketball team their first loss of the season in make-up action Saturday night in Waldoboro. Leavitt led 27-13 at the quarter, 48-30 at the half, and 65-45 at the end of three in their 81-56 win over Medomak. The Lady Panthers are seeded second in East B and the Hornets second in West B.
The Hornets scored the first 12 points of the ball game. The Panthers cut the lead to single digits twice in the first quarter, before Leavitt lit up the scoreboard from the outside. Medomak had 24 turnovers in the loss, including nine in the first quarter.
The Panthers held a 39-22 edge in rebounding, but could not come up with the answer to counter the Hornets’ long range air game. The Hornets only penetrated Medomak’s defense a couple of times the entire game, but scored 30 points from behind the arch, and many more on outside jumpers, led by Kirsten and Courtney Anderson with 24 points each.
Scoring for Medomak were Ericka Christensen 20 (15R), Lindsay Ranquist 14 (7R,2S,3A), Alanna Vose 14 (4R,4S), Nicole Weaver 5, Kayleigh Beckwith 2 and Roxanne Jelenfy 1. Scoring for Leavitt were K. Anderson 24 (8-3’s, 7R), C. Anderson 24 (7S,2-3’s), Adrianna Newton 12, (4S), Abbey Randall 9, Amanda Jordan 7 (6R), and Sarah Frost 5.
Medomak girls dropped to third place in East Class B this week with their loss to Leavitt, behind number one Presque Isle (12-1) and no. 2 John Bapst (9-2). The top 10 teams in East B make the playoffs.
