Jefferson’s softball team got the job done on June 15 to earn their first Busline League softball championship, 9-7 over Thomaston. The Lady Chargers were runners-up to Rockland in 2010.
Undefeated Jefferson beat Richmond in the Southern Division championship game to advance to the finals against Thomaston.
Abby Farrin collected the win (4H, 8K, 2HP, 8B) for Jefferson, and Lexi Davis (3H, 9K,13B, 1HP) took the loss for Thomaston.
Jefferson jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the 1st inning. Morgan Achorn and Avery Bond walked and both scored on passed balls. They added three runs in the 2nd. Brooke Stewart walked and scored on an overthrow, and Michaela Sprague and Morgan Achorn walked and scored on passed balls.
Thomaston got on the boards in the 3rd inning when Rachel Robinson walked and scored on a Macy Boutot single.
Jefferson plated three runs in the bottom of the 3rd to take an 8-1 lead. Alyssa Smith and Stewart walked and Lillian Bisset was hit by a pitch and all three scored on passed balls and an error.
Davis scored for Thomaston in the 5th on a single and RBI error to Robinson. Jefferson got the run back in the home half of the 5th, when Bisset walked and scored on a throwing error.
Thomaston pulled within three with a 4 run 6th inning. Bailee Cox walked, Christy Rasmussen reached on an error, and Davis walked to set up a 2 run single to Robinson. Robinson scored to make it a 3 run ball game.
They added a run in the 7th on a walk to Cox and single to Davis to pull within two. The Clippers rally fell short with the tying run at the plate when Alyssa Smith made the catch on a fly ball at third to end the game.
Hitting for Jefferson were Bond, Miranda Achorn and Farrin a single each. Hitting for Thomaston were Davis, Robinson, Macy Boutot and Kaylyn Grover a single each.
