Lincoln Academy’s baseball team opened their KVAC season with an 8-6 win over county rivals Medomak Valley on April 23. Brandon Reilly collected the win in six innings of work (4K,3B,6H). Dalton Leeman (1B,3H,3R), Alex Cosgrove (1K), and Jeff Cheney (1H) pitched in the relief in the 7th inning. Relief pitcher Buddy Simmons took the loss (1I,3R,3H, 1B). Isaac Greenrose started for the Panthers (4I,5B,4K,2H,4R) and Isaac Durkee closed out the 6th inning (1R,2H,1K,1B).
Lincoln jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the 1st inning. Stephen Quinlan walked, moved over on a Reilly fielder’s choice and stole home. Reilly scored on a Jeff Lamb single.
Medomak tied the score in the top of the 4th inning. Taylor Williamson singled. Steven Genthner reached on a fielder’s choice and both scored on a single from Dillon Reed.
Lincoln retook the lead for good in the home half of the 4th with two runs. Lamb and Kyle Scherer drew walks and scored when Mardy Alden ripped a two run single up the middle.
Medomak scored one run in the 5th on back-to-back doubles from Greenrose and Williamson (RBI).
Lincoln plated three runs in the 5th. Reilly singled, Brandon Bonney walked and both came home on a Lamb double. Leeman traded placed with Lamb with an RBI double. The Eagles added a run in the sixth when Merritt Wotton singled, stole second and scored on a Reilly single.
Medomak threatened in the top of the 7th. Durkee hit a lead off single and made his way to second on an outfield error. LA intentionally walked Panther slugger Williamson, setting up a three run homerun from Genthner over the right center field fence. The Panthers had the winning run at the plate after Alex Greenrose and John Bartlett singled, but Leeman picked up the final out on a grounder to third to spoil the rally.
Medomak out hit Lincoln 10-7, but stranded nine base runners. Lincoln left five runners on. Hitting for Lincoln were Lamb with a double and single, Reilly 2 singles, Leeman a double, and Wotton and Alden a single each. Hitting for Medomak were Genthner with a homerun and single, Williamson a double and single, Bartlett 2 singles, I. Greenrose a double and I. Durkee, A. Greenrose and Dillon Reed a single each.
Both teams had a double play in the second inning.
Jeff Cheney took the loss in four innings of work (1K,4H,1B, 4 runs (3 unearned). Nat Baptist pitched two innings in relief (1K,2H,0B). Holt collected the win for the Raiders (4I,5K,4H,6B).
Winslow took a 1-0 lead in the 1st. Lincoln knotted the score in the top of the 2nd when Reilly walked, went to third on passed balls and scored on an Alden single. Winslow retook the lead with two runs in the home half of the 2nd. Lincoln tied the game in the top of the 3rd with two runs. Bo McLain walked, moved over on a Lamb single and scored on a Reilly double. Lamb scored when Alden reached on an error.
The Raiders retook the lead with a run in the 4th. Lincoln tied the game for the third time in the top of the 5th when Reilly reached on an error and scored on an Alden fielder’s choice.
Winslow scored two runs in the bottom of the 5th for the game winners.
Hitting for Lincoln were Reilly with a double and Lamb, Chris Chickering and Alden hit a single each. Hitting for Winslow were John McCabe with a double and single, and Camp, Raymond, Nivision and Wheeler a single each.
Eric Peters collected the win (5I,9H,2B,6K). Shane Osier took the loss (1I,1K,2H,3B,3R), and I. Durkee pitched five innings in relief (8R,10H,1B,1HP,3K).
Belfast took a 3-0 lead in the 3rd inning. Medomak got two runs back in the bottom of the 3rd. Williamson smashed a solo homerun. Genthner singled and scored on a Reed single to make it a 3-5 ball game. The Lions scored six runs over the final three innings to put the game out of reach.
Belfast added two runs in the 4th. Medomak plated one in the bottom of the inning when Shane Osier drew a walk and scored on an I. Greenrose single.
Hitting for Medomak were I. Durkee with a double and single, I. Greenrose, Genthner and Reed 2 singles each, Williamson a homerun, and A. Greenrose a single.
Hitting for Belfast were Nick Thibideau 2 doubles and a single (3RBI), Derek Bernoski a double and single, Matt Steinart a double and single, Peters 2 singles, Jack Davis a triple, Josh Beal a double and Cote Ward and Winston Simonds with a single each.
