Lincoln Academy softball defeated Waterville 10-1 on Monday to improve their record to 8-0.
“The Lincoln Academy Lady Eagles Softball Team is off to a great start for several reasons. Solid pitching and catching is a key and Abby Farrin and Miranda Achorn have been outstanding, Farrin has registered 70 strikeouts in 51 innings of work and Achorn has not allowed a passed ball or made an error all season,” coach Tom Nelson said.
“Consistent defense has also been key. Timely hitting and baserunning have added to the early success with the Eagles. Depth has been crucial to our success so far; having six seniors and eight juniors makes it easy to coach this group.
Our motto this season is “know your job, do your job,” and so far, every one of these ladies have done just that,” Nelson said. Abby Farrin collected the win (4I,5K,2H,0B,0R), and Kortney McKenna the save (3I,1R,3K,4B).
Madison Closes took the loss (5K,5B,11H).
The Lady Eagles took a 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Chloe Hallowell led off with a triple and scored on a Morgan Achorn fielder’s choice. Alyx York hit an RBI single, Alyssa Smith walked, and both scored on passed balls.
Lincoln scored one in the second when Morgan Achorn doubled and scored on Miranda Achorn’s single. They added a run in the third when Margarett Skiff singled and scored on an Olivia York double.
