Four Lincoln Academy swimmers placed in the State Class B swimming championships, held at Bowdoin College in Brunswick on Tuesday. The Lady Eagles broke five school records, and medalled in six events and placed in 10.
Greely scored 328.5 to win the State title, and MDI were runners-up with 285. Lincoln placed seventh with 124 points. Wiscasset swimmers also competed, but did not score.
Lincoln girls placed fourth in two relays and broke school records in both. The Lady Eagles 200 free relay team took fourth in a school record time of 1:46.72 with Heidi Ziegra, Gretchen Konitzky, Kara Mullin and Valeska Vaughan swimming a leg. The 400 free relay placed fourth in a school record time of 3:57.80 with Mullin, Olivia Pennington, Vaughan and Ziegra swimming a leg.
Mullin scratched in her two individual races due to illness, in order to conserve her energy for the relays. The top eight places received medals, and places 9-16 ribbons. The top 16 finishers scored team points.
Vaughan medalled in the 50 free with a sixth place finish in an LA school record time of 26.36; and placed seventh in the 100 free in 59.93.
Ziegra medalled in two events, taking seventh in the 100 butterfly in a school record time of 1:05.54, and eighth in the 200 free in a school record breaking time of 2:05.63 (prelim time).
Pennington collected ribbons in two events. She placed 10th in the 100 back in 1:10.16, and 16th in the 200 free in 2:20.21.
Konitzky placed in two events, taking 10th in the 50 free in 27.27 and 16th in the 100 free in 1:02.79.
