Lady Mustangs Win Battle Of KVAC Winless

Lincoln Academy hosted Mt. View girls’ soccer team Tuesday night, in a game that meant everything to the two winless teams. Both teams were 0-13 going into the game, in a contest of pride. The Mustangs rode out of Newcastle with a 1-0 win, and the Eagles finished their KVAC season without a win.

The Eagles out shot Mt. View 18-7, but were unable to punch a ball past keeper Amanda Larrabee (11 saves) guarding the Mustang corral. After dominating the 1st half, Lincoln came out flat and the Mustangs socked it in deep in Eagle territory. The pressure paid off in the form of the winning goal from Mikell Grant, who put in a failed defensive clear four minutes into the half.

Freshman Miranda Achorn had her first varsity start in net, and made five athletic saves.

Belfast 2 – Lincoln 1The Lady Eagles lost a hard fought game to Belfast in make-up action Saturday at Belfast. Emily Wiley gave the Lions the lead in the 1st half. Lincoln knotted the score with 52 seconds remaining in the half, when Leslie Sandefur scored on a Morgan Achorn feed. Colleen Rooney scored the game winner for Belfast with 33 minutes remaining in the game, with Natalie Calligan collecting he assist.

Katie Riley made four saves for the Eagles and Miranda Achorn six. Gardiner 7 – Lincoln 1Lincoln Academy jumped out to a 1-0 lead in 1st half action. Sally Gardiner-Smith scored the goal with Leslie Sandefur picking up the assist. The Eagles were unable to hold the Tigers, who pumped in seven goals to win 7-1.

Down by one, Gardiner pulled goalkeeper Allyson Day. Day pounded in five goals to lead the Tigers to victory. Kylee Granholm and Cameron Slate added a goal each.

Gardiner held a 21-11 advantage in shots. Katie Riley made 10 saves for the Eagles.
