Medomak Valley girls’ basketball team defeated Lincoln Academy 49-33 Thursday night in Newcastle. The Eagles got off to a quick start, leading 15-9 at the quarter break, but were unable to contain the Lady Panthers over the final three quarters. Medomak’s defense held Lincoln to just five baskets over the final three quarters, and forced 23 turnovers in the win.
The good news for the Lady Eagles, is senior Anna Budrow is off the injured list and played in her first game of the season. Freshman Jen Genthner is also off the injured list and played in her second game.
Alanna Vose opened the game with a 3-pointer for the Panthers. Lincoln rattled off the next 10 straight points to take the lead. Katherine Bolster sank four foul shots, Laura Soohey scored on a Marni Jones feed, and Jones hit a three. The Panthers tied the score on two baskets from Lindsay Ranquist and two foul shots from Kasey Benner. Bolster scored six straight points to put Lincoln up by six at the quarter break.
Merissa Look boosted Lincoln’s lead to eight at the start of the second period, but that would be the only basket the Eagles could muster in the quarter. The Panthers rattled off 12 straight to take a 21-17 lead in the half. Medomak scored the first six points of the third quarter to extend their streak to 18 straight points. They led 33-22 at the end of three.
Lincoln pulled within five in the final quarter. Laura Soohey sank four foul shots, Marni Jones two and Look scored on a feed from Soohey. Medomak ended the quarter with a 14-3 run to put the game away.
Scoring for Medomak were Ranquist 14 (7 rebounds, 6 steals, 6 assists), Alanna Vose 14 (3R,2S,2A), Ashley Rackliff 5 (2R,2A), Vanessa Davis 4, Ericka Christensen 4 (4R,1B), Roxanne Jelenfy 4, Kasey Benner 2 (3R), and Nicole Weaver 2 (5R,1B). Scoring for the Eagles were Bolster 13 (4R,6S), Soohey 7 (4R,2A), Jones 5 (4R,3A), Look 4, and Anna Budrow 4. Kelsey Schwarz had 7 rebounds for Lincoln.
