Medomak Middle School 190-lb. wrestler Brandon Lessard was crowned champion at the Pine Tree Wrestling League State championship Saturday at Medomak Valley High School. Owen Gilbert (145), and Travis Reed (240) placed fourth in the tournament.
Owen Gilbert (145) beat John Higgins (OH) by 7-1 decision, lost to Daniel McGuffie (MtA) by 8-4 decision, and beat Dylan Robbins (Buc) by 11-9 decision to advance to the consolation finals. Gilbert lost a 5-3 decision to Tucker Rowland (MtV) for fourth place.
Tristan Whitcomb (170) was pinned by Jake Truman (Gar) in 1:07, pinned Nate Brewer (MtA) in 1:33 and was eliminated by Brandon Brown (Mon) by 10-8 decision.
Brandon Lessard (190) pinned Lucas MacDonald (Dir) in 44 seconds, and pinned Dakota Walker (Bel) in 1:26 to advance to the championship round. Lessard beat Anthony Leo (MtA) by 6-4 decision to win the championship.
Joseph Taylor (210) was pinned by Corey Lent (Bath) in 12 seconds, drew a bye, then was eliminated by Hunter Glidden (Nok) by fall in one minute flat.
Travis Reed (240) pinned Kyle Czerepayn (Mon) in 39 seconds, lost a 5-4 decision to Jacob Nichols (Nok), and pinned Orion Seraph (Gar) in 56 seconds to advance to the consolation finals. Reed lost to KP Hilaire (Buc) in the finals for fourth place.
