Lincoln Academy’s golf team won their second straight Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference team championship Sept. 29 at Bath Country Club. The top four teams in the league, including Lincoln, Medomak Valley, MCI and Maranacook, faced off for the KVAC title.
The championship match started an hour early to try to beat the impending weather. The teams played on damp grass, and finished in drizzle. Medomak was second with 166, MCI third with 172, and Maranacook fourth with 174.
The Eagles shot a team round of 159 in their victory to secure an automatic berth into the State Class B golf championship, to be played Oct. 4 at Natanis. Three Eagles shot sub-40 scores in the win.
Malcolm Oliver was low medallist with a 38. Cody Graves and Seward Matel shot 39s. Jalen Lincoln and Goran Johanson shot 43s, and Kelsey Leeman, 56.
Graves recorded a season best score, six points below his average. Oliver, Matel and Lincoln also shot under their season averages in the win.
Medomak Valley finished KVAC runner-ups with a 166. Adam Lynch and Alex Greenrose shot 40s; Isaac Greenrose and John Wilcox shot 43s; Zack Judkins 51 and Ryan Merrifield, 53.
“They did a good job. We got there, that was one of our goals,” coach Peter Stuart said.
