Lincoln and Medomak boys win two in Budrow Memorial Tournament

The third annual Matthew Budrow Memorial Basketball Tournament was held at Lincoln Academy on Dec. 4. Lincoln Academy and Medomak Valley boys picked up a pair of wins each in the tournament. Medomak girls split their games and the Lady Eagles lost both games.

Budrow, a 2001 Lincoln Academy graduate, returned to teach at his alma mater, after graduating from Plymouth State University. He coached JV boys’ soccer and varsity girls’ soccer. His life ended tragically in a snowmobile accident in 2008.

Boys’ basketball

Lincoln 52 – Morse 31Lincoln boys topped Morse in game one of the tournament, 52-31. The Eagles jumped out to a 19-1 lead in the first quarter and extended it to 29-7 at the half. Scoring for Lincoln were Jalen Lincoln 11, Dylan Leavitt 8, Brandon Reilly 7, Ryley Leavitt 6, Cam Dodge 5, Kyle Scherer 4, Zach Steeves 3, Bo McLain 3, Everett Martin 3 and Stephen Quinlan 2. Scoring for Morse were Kevin McKellam 7, Max Rawson 7, Frank Faulkiren 5, Paul Whally 4, Jacob Freeman 2, Alex Crosby 2, Trenton Moore 1 and Chris Paulus 1. Medomak 62 – Morse 32Medomak boys handled the Shipbuilders in game three of the tournament. John Murray led the Panther charge with 19 points. Isaac Greenrose added 14, Isaac Durkee 9, Shane Osier 5, Brandon Soper 2, Kyle Durkee 2, Deering Genthner 2, Zach Judkins 2, Travis Goldrup 2 and Robbie Griffin and Jon Hendrickson-Belloguet 1 each. Scoring for Morse were Freeman 9, Faulker 6, Whelem 5, Munster 4, Listen 3, Moore 2, Crosby 2 and Dimkins 1. Medomak 58 – Brunswick 53Medomak rallied from behind in the second half to beat Brunswick 58-53 in game five of the tournament. Medomak out scored the Dragons 23-13 in the third. I. Durkee hit two jump shots, including a 3-pointer to give the Panthers the lead for good early in the third period.

Scoring for Medomak were I. Durkee 12, Murray 11, I. Greenrose 10, Judkins 8, K. Durkee 5, Ryan Ripley 4, Osier 4, Alex Greenrose 3 and Genthner 1. Scoring for Brunswick were Mitchell Black 11, Konnor Scarpani 9, Garrett Erb 9, Trent Anderson 7, Ryan Black 6, Alex Ouellette 4, Nolan Robbins 4 and Bradford Smith 3. Lincoln 57 – Brunswick 40Lincoln boys slew the Dragons in game seven of the tournament, 57-40. The Eagles led 17-11 at the quarter, 30-21 at the half and 39-34 at the end of three. Lincoln went on a 9-0 run to open the fourth. Martin hit two foul shots, Phinney went inside on a Reilly pass, and Lincoln hit a three and a bucket in the rally. The Eagles sank 11 of 15 foul shots in the final frame.

Oxford Hills 56 – Lincoln 28Oxford Hills jumped on the Lady Eagles early, taking a 17-9 lead at the quarter. Scoring for Lincoln were Laura Soohey 9, Katherine Bolster 7, Marni Jones 4, Jenn Genthner 4 and Kelsey Schwarz 4. Scoring for Oxford were Ashley West 19, Abbie Eastman 19, Alex Rowe 6, Dayna Schultz 4, Crystal West 2, Abby Morton 2 and Kelsey DeBlois 1. Medomak 47 – Oxford Hills 34Medomak Valley girls’ basketball team defeated Oxford Hills 47-34 in their first game of the tournament Saturday afternoon. Both teams got off to a slow start, with Oxford holding an 8-4 lead at the quarter and 18-17 lead at the half. The Lady Panthers came out of the halftime break on fire, scoring 17 points in the third period to take a 34-26 lead into the final period.

Scoring for Medomak were Ericka Christensen 15, Lindsay Ranquist 13, Vanessa Davis 6, Ashley Rackliff 4, Nicole Weaver 3, Roxanne Jelenfy and Alanna Vose 3. Scoring for Oxford were Kelsey DeBlois 11, Ashley West 8, Abbie Eastman 7, Crissy Lewis 4, Alex Rowe 3 and Claire Gregory 1. Brunswick 55 – Medomak 46Brunswick handed Medomak a 55-46 loss in the sixth game of the tournament. Brunswick jumped out to an early lead, before Medomak rallied to close within one in the third quarter. Tiana Burton hit a big 3-pointer for the Dragons to spark them down the stretch.

Scoring for Medomak were Ranquist 16, Christensen 12, Vose 12, Mallory Robbins 3 and Davis 2. Scoring for Brunswick were Burton 19, Becky Champagne 10, Lydia Caputi 10, Dakota Foster 8, Emily Bryant 6 and Liz Faulkner 2. Brunswick 73 – Lincoln 38Brunswick jumped out to a 14-2 first quarter lead. Lincoln showed some spark in the second quarter, outscoring the Dragons 17-6 to cut the lead to 13 at the half. They played Brunswick even in the third, before Brunswick exploded for 25 points in the fourth, while holding the Eagles to four.

Scoring for Lincoln were Bolster 16, Genthner 6, Soohey 5, Look 4, Jones 3 and Schwarz 2. Scoring for Brunswick were Lyse Hersom 14, Bryant 12, Caputi 12, Burton 8, Becky Champagne 7, Foster 6, Faulkner 6, Libby Arford 4, Tiffany Fraser 3 and Lauren Carleton 1.
