Lincoln Academy’s baseball team returns all but two players from a team that went 10-5 last year and lost to Yarmouth in the West B semifinals. Many of the seniors played on the 2009 team that were West B runner-ups.
Third year coach Greg Rice said “first and foremost, our goal is to make the playoffs, and get as far as possible.” Of the upcoming season, Rice added, “I’m looking forward to it.”
Seniors Brandon Reilly and Jeff Lamb are co-captains for the second straight season. “They’ve been doing a great job. They take a big load off my shoulders and motivating the team,” Rice said. “I am very blessed to have the six seniors I have. They are the first ones there at 5:30 a.m. practices,” Rice added.
The Eagles are still looking to fill a couple of holes. “We’re waiting until we get outside,” Rice said of finalizing his starting roster.
Playing on this year’s team are seniors Brandon Reilly (pitcher, third base), Jeff Lamb (catcher), Alex Cosgrove (pitcher, outfield), Mardy Alden (designated hitter), Everett Martin (first base), and Kyle Scherer (left field and first).
Also on the team are juniors Merritt Wotton (center field), Dalton Leeman (pitcher, third base, outfield), Bo McLain (second base), Brandon Bonney (relief pitcher, outfield), Andy Bartlett (pitcher), Ryan Peters (role player), and Stephen Quinlan (shortstop); sophomores Casey Poland (backup infield and outfield), Cody Graves (utility); and freshman AJ Oliver (pitcher, outfield).
“He certainly has the tools to contribute right away,” Rice said of Oliver.
