Lincoln County Eagles Second In Poland Tournament

The Lincoln County Eagles grade 6-8 girls’ basketball travel team placed second in the 10 team Poland Lady Knights 7th & 8th Tournament in Poland over the weekend. Lincoln’s team is made up or three 8th graders, four 7th graders and four 6th graders, all students from Great Salt Bay School.

The Eagles won their first four games of the tournament to advance to the championship game, where they fell to Winslow and settled for second place.

The Eagles will play in the Patriot League out of Southern Maine starting in January. They are coached by CJ Wajer and Donovan York.

Lincoln 49 – Gardiner 44Nine players scored in the Eagles’ opening game of the tournament. Taylor Oliver netted 10, Danielle Pinkham 8, Leslie Sandefur 8, Brie Wajer 6, Sophie Schumacher 5, Alyx York 4, Bailey Plourde 4, Olivia York 2 and Brianna Genthner 2. Scoring leaders for Gardiner were Rachel Quirion 17, Morgan Carver 9 and Emily Michaud 7. Lincoln 41 – Lewiston 29Lincoln County cruised to victory in game two, 41-29 over Lewiston. Pinkham netted 12, Sandefur 9, Wajer 8, Schumacher 6, and Lauren Hunt, A. York and Isabel Carlson 2 each. Lewiston was led by Maggie Phelam 10, Megan Cullins 6 and Olivia Grimmer 4. Lincoln 43 – Gray-NG 34Lincoln topped Gray-New Gloucester 43-34 in their third game of the tournament. Three players scored in double figures in the win. Sandefur scored 11 and Pinkham and O. York chipped in 10 each. Wajer added 8 and Plourde and Genthner 2 each. Gray-NG was led by Maria Valente 10, Kierstan Stritch 6, Sarah Carter 5, Ashley Jordan 5 and Jacki Gillen 4. Lincoln 32 – Poland 22The Eagles beat host team Poland by 10 in the semi-finals to advance to the championship game. Sandefur led with 12 points, Wajer added 8, Pinkham 4, A. York 3, Plourde 2 and O. York, Carlson and Schumacher one each. The Knights were led by Hope Kohtala 6, Michaella Arsenault 6 and Kylie Martin 5. Winslow 34 – Lincoln 27The Eagles led for three quarters, before Winslow pulled ahead in the final stanza. “They were passing well and had nice looks, just were not finishing,” Chrissy Wajer said. The Eagles only made five of 15 foul shots, while Winslow was 8 for 11.

Scoring for Lincoln were Pinkham, Sandefur and O. York 6 each, Genthner 3 and Wajer, A. York and Oliver 2 each. Winslow was led by Meg Nadeau 8, Allyssa Wood 7, Devin Fitzgibbons 6 and Delany Wood 6.
