Lincoln, Medomak And Oceanside Pick Up Double Wins In 2011 Holiday Classic

Medomak Valley All Sports Boosters hosted their annual Holiday Classic basketball tournament on Dec. 26, featuring eight girls’ and eight boys’ teams.

Midcoast Energy, Sunset Knoll Landscaping and Greenhouse, Hervochon Construction, Harold C. Ralph Chevrolet, Newcastle Square Vacation Rentals, Wallace’s Market, Moody’s Diner, Eastern Tire & Auto Service, Dow Furniture, Hillside Collision, Durkee & Sons Inc., Waldoboro Chiropractic & Massage, Lash Realty Group, Spears Farm, Maine Modular & Manufactured Homes, Supplies Unlimited, Town Line Video Plus, and Masters Machine Company were tournament sponsors.

Boys’ results

Mt.View 69 – Boothbay 61Ben Dicksinson was named player of the game for Boothbay, and Craig Nealley for Mt.View.

Oceanside 50 – Erskine 49Game three featured an exciting match-up between Oceanside and Erskine Academy. The Mariners won by a point. Players of the game were Shyler Scates for the Eagles, and Matt Zable for the Mariners.

Lincoln 52 – Wiscasset 47Wiscasset led briefly in the 1st quarter, before the Eagles went on a 13-4 run to lead 13-7 at the quarter. The Eagles went up by 10 at the half 29-19 and 47-31 at the end of three.

Scoring for the Eagles were Nic Phinney 14, Jalen Lincoln 12, Travis Creamer 6, Caleb Farrin 6, Bo McLain 4 (3R,5S), Ryley Leavitt 4 (6R), Dylan Leavitt 3 (10R,2S,2B), Merritt Wotton 2 and Devin Scherer 1. Seward Matel had 7 rebounds, and 3 assists, and AJ Oliver 4 rebounds. Scoring for Wiscasset were Devin Grover 12, Caleb Bryant 10 (15R), Jason Weatherbee 8 (10R), Jordan Jones 4, Austin Haskell 4, Travis Padilla 3, Corey Hodgdon 2, James Andretta 2 and Zach Ellison 2.

Players of the game were Weatherbee for Wiscasset, and Phinney for Lincoln.

Medomak 60 – Messalonskee 49Messalonskee opened the game with back-to-back three-pointers, before Medomak Valley shut them down. The Panthers finished the quarter with an 18-2 run to lead 18-8 at the break, then coasted to victory over Messalonskee in game seven of the tournament.

Scoring for Medomak were Deering Genthner 12 (2R,3S), Alex Greenrose 11, Tyler Isidro 10 (3S,2A), Zach Judkins 8 (4R), Isaac Greenrose 6 (3R,2S,5A), Shane Osier 4 (3R,2S), Boone Olson 3, Ryan Ripley 2 (6R,2S), Jonathan Hendrickson-Belloguet 1 (2R,3S,2A), Russell Wood 2 and Kazu Tibbetts 1. Scoring for the Eagles were Aaron Gagne 9 (5R), Elijah Steele 7 (9R), Gage Landry 6, Reid Nutter 5, Jake Fenlason 4, Taylor Clark 4, Jordan Holmes 4, Travis Stacey 3, Riley Wadsworth 3, Luke Vigne 2 and Carl Smith 2.

Players of the game were Genthner for Medomak and Gagne for Messalonskee.

Girls’ results

Boothbay 60 – Waterville 59Boothbay girls clipped the Purple Panthers of Waterville in game two of the tournament. Meghan Smith was named player of the game for the Seahawks and Ashleigh Gagne for Waterville.

Oceanside 56 – Erskine 38Player of the game was Emma Davis for Oceanside.

Lincoln 35 – Wiscasset 30Game five of the tournament featured two of the youngest teams in the state. The Lady Eagles of Lincoln Academy led 9-5 at the quarter, 19-15 at the half and 24-22 at the end of three. Wiscasset took the lead late in the 3rd quarter on a basket from Brianna Goud. Merissa Look hit a big three for Lincoln to recapture the lead.

Kayla Connors opened the final period with a pair at the foul line to knot the score. Wiscasset stayed close, but were unable to get over the hump in the final period.

Scoring for Lincoln were Look 17 (3-3’s,4R), Jenn Genthner 11 (8R,2S,2B), Danielle Pinkham 3 (4R), Taylor Oliver 2 and Rachel Hughes 2. Scoring for Wiscasset were Connors 21 (15R, Heidi Pinkham 4, Goud 3 (6R), and Miranda McIntire 2.

Players of the game were Connors for Wiscasset and Look for the Eagles.

Medomak 47 – Messalonskee 42The Lady Panthers and Eagles battled every step of the way in the final game of the 2011 Holiday Classic. Medomak led 16-12 at the quarter, 27-24 at the half and 35-34 at the end of three. First half action saw Medomak surge ahead, only to have the Eagles tie the game four times and take the lead twice.

Messalonskee led twice in the 3rd quarter, including taking the lead on a six-point run with a minute and a half to go in the frame. Emily Leach settled two at the foul line to give Medomak a one-point edge going into the final period.

Messalonskee tied the game and took the lead twice in the final frame. Medomak rallied on baskets from Leach and Alanna Vose with under two minutes to play, and Mallory Conary and Vose scored a foul shot each to win by five.

Scoring for Medomak were Vose 19 (2R,3S), Leach 7, Conary 6 (5R,2B), Heidi Obuchon 4 (4R), Elise Wallace 4 (4R), Amanda Hendrickson-Belloguet 4 (3R), and Mallory Robbins 3 (5R,2B).

Scoring for Messalonskee were Mary Bodeen 12 (6R,6S), Megan Pelletier 8 (8R), Mikayla Mayo 7, Kassandra Michaud 5, Shelby Cutten 3 (6R,4S), Emily York 2 and Sara Grenier 2.

Players of the game for the Panthers was Vose, and for the Eagles Mikayal Turner.
