Lincoln Academy first year softball coach Katie Mainville was named the 2010 KVAC softball coach of the year. Mainville led the Eagles to a 13-3 record this season and a sixth seed in West Class B. The Eagles lost to Greeley in the West B quarterfinals.
“She did an amazing job this year,” assistant coach (and father of pitcher Amelia Pennington) Sam Pennington Jr. commented
Lincoln had their first winning record since 2006. The Lady Eagles defeated top KVAC seed Maranacook. The last time Lincoln Academy had defeated the KVAC powerhouse was 15 years ago in 1995. They also beat KVAC nemesis Winslow, who they had not beaten single 1999.
Lincoln tied for second place in KVAC heal points with Medomak and Oak Hill.
“I couldn’t do it without the team and without my assistant coach. It’s too bad it didn’t end with a win,” Mainville said of the award and the sudden end of their season in the West B quarterfinals.
