Medomak Valley’s baseball team is “very focused and driven to succeed this season. Every player is working hard and really listening to the coaching staff,” veteran coach Scott Hastings said.
The Panthers returns seven players from a team that went 2-14 last season.
“I expect all players to have a role this season. It takes a team to win and we are very well rounded. When one player struggles, there are others to step up,” Hastings said.
Hastings said the team goals this season are “to show significant improvement over last season. Last season was a disappointment for all of us that we don’t plan to repeat. We are working hard to meet, not only our team goal, but personal goals as well.”
Hastings looks for Belfast, Camden Hills, Oceanside and Lincoln Academy to be the toughest teams the Panthers will face in the KVAC. A win against one of these teams “will go a long way in the heal point standings. Every one of those teams will be a challenge that we must rise to defeat,” he said.
Playing varsity for Medomak this year are seniors Alex Benner (utility), Josh Lee (first base, outfield), Zach Little (utility), Nate Mazanec (utility), Michael Wadsworth (utility), and Jacob York (utility); juniors Bryce Collamore (second), Tyler Emerson (pitcher, first), Colton Spear (catcher, second, outfield) and Micah Williamson (pitcher, shortstop; and sophomores Ollie Brown (catcher, outfield), Nick DePatsy (pitcher, infield), Patrick Madden (catcher, outfield), Riley McCollett (third, shortstop, outfield), Ben Turner (outfield), and Adam Wilcox (pitcher, outfield).
The Panthers open on April 23 at Lincoln Academy. Due to construction on the Lincoln Academy campus in Newcastle this season, the Eagles will play their home games at the Waldoboro Recreation field.
