Medomak Valley boys’ basketball team returns a strong contingent from last year’s team that went 14-4 in a very competitive Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference. The Panthers return three out of their top four scorers from last season: John Murray (15.5), Isaac Greenrose (11.4) and Alex Greenrose (8.85).
The Panthers will be wearing black bands this season in memory of former player Dustin Osier was killed in a tragic automobile accident last summer. Osier’s brother Shane, is a member of the 2011-2012 team.
The veteran Panther team is made up of all upperclassmen. Seniors on this year’s squad include Osier, Robbie Griffin, Deering Genthner, Isaac Greenrose, Alex Greenrose, Zach Judkins, Tyler Isidro and Russell Wood. Juniors include Brandon Soper, Boone Olson, Wil Dow, Jonathan Hendrickson-Belloguet, Kazu Tibbetts, Ryan Ripley and John Murray.
Returning coach Nick DePatsy said the competitive KVAC is “the same as always. We’re going have to show up and play every night.”
DePatsy said Lincoln Academy, Camden, Oceanside, Gardiner, Nokomis and Leavitt are all strong contenders in the league.
Medomak opens their season on Fri., Dec. 9, home against Oceanside at 5:45 p.m.
