Medomak Valley boys’ cross country team placed second in a three-team meet at Oceanside in Rockland on Sept. 2. Senior home schooled student Mason Vermilion led the Panther pack in his very first high school race, taking third in 18:30.
“He has been running all summer, and ran in a road race and decided it was something he wanted to do his whole life. He is a natural. He makes all the rest of them better,” coach George Gould said of the newest member of the team.
Mt. Ararat won the race with 27 points, followed by Medomak with 37 and Camden 68. Andy Reifman-Packett was the overall race winner in 17:02.
The scoring five include 3. Vermilion, 18:30; 5. Nick Anderson, 18:57; 8. Ian Rixon, 19:31; 10. Ivan Johnson, 19:45; and 11. Alex Casas, 19:48. Also running were 15. Gavin Felch, 20:38; 18. Taylor Packard, 20:57; 19. Lance Parker, 20:57; 20. Brendon O’Donnell, 21:04; 21. Kyle Baubonis, 21:32; and 35. Alex Kenniston, 26:07.
Camden’s Willow Parker won the race in 19:23. Jordan Hopkins was the first Panther finisher in 26th place in 25:34. Rounding out the scoring five were 30. Alyssa Griggs, 25:49; 31. Shannon Staples, 25:49; 33. Jocelyn Thames, 26:07; and 37. Kelsie Grady, 26:55. Also running were 38. Abbie Vail, 27:21; 39. Missy Philbrook, 28:04; 40. Kristi Severson, 28:07; 43. Beth Corson, 30:33; and 44. Bailey Black, 31:14.
