Medomak Valley football won in front of their home town crowd Friday night under the lights in their only home game of the season. The Panthers defeated Houlton 35-22.
Medomak scored on their opening drive. Colton Spear had two carries and Cole Ashmore one to set up a touchdown run from Riley McCollett.
Starr ran a fumble back for a touchdown to give the Panthers a 14-0 edge at the quarter break. On Medomak’s first possession in the second frame, Spear ran 89 yards
for a touchdown to put Medomak up 21-0.
Jake Drew put Houlton on the boards with a 62 yard touchdown run. Houlton then intercepted a Panther pass, but were unable to capitalize, instead fumbled the ball,
with Starr recovering for Medomak.
Owen Gilbert scored on a 29 touchdown pass from McCollett to give the Panthers a 28-8 lead at the half.
In the third quarter, Drew scored on a 12 yard run for Houlton. Spear followed with a 20 yard touchdown run for Medomak, and Drew ran 25 yards for a TD to end the
quarter with Medomak up 35-22.
Houlton threatened in the fourth, but were unable to convert on fourth down and the Panthers took over. With a minute to play Spear intercepted a Shiretowners’ pass
in the end zone.
Spear led the Panther offense with 24 carries for 203 yards and two touchdowns. McCollett was three for six. Owen Gilbert was 5 for 5 kicking extra points. On the
defensive end, Spear had 10 tackles and one interception; Starr had five tackles and three fumble recoveries; Bryce Collamore five tackles; Owen Gilbert five tackles, and Quinn
Ashmore, Nick McAuliffe, and Cole Nichols three tackles each.
