Medomak Valley Girls’ Basketball Team picked up a pair of wins this week, beating Winslow in a cliffhanger 51-43 and MCI 51-25 to improve their KVAC record to 5-2.
Scoring for Medomak were Alanna Vose 19 (3S), Mallory Conary 9, Missy Philbrook 6 (6R), Emily Leach 4, Amanda Hendrickson-Belloguet 3 (7R), Heidi Obuchon 2, Elise Wallace 2, Mallory Robbins 2, Taylor Simmons 2 and Hannah Marks 2. Scoring for MCI were Ashley Kitchin 13, Riana Losee 5, Kylee Alton 5 and Taylor Wright 2.
Alanna Vose made three of four, and Mallory Robbins and Mallory Conary sank two each to preserve their lead.
The win was a total team effort. Mallory Robbins came up with two huge defensive rebounds in the final minute of play. Mallory Conary sank a pair of three-pointers in the 1st quarter, when the Raiders shut leading scorer Vose down.
Vose, who only scored four points in the 1st half, while in foul trouble, exploded for 23 points in the 2nd half. And defensively, Amanda Hendrickson-Belloguet shut down Winslow scorer Elizabeth Ferry in the 2nd half.
Taylor Simmons and Robbins gave the Panthers a 4-0 lead in the opening minutes of play. Winslow took the lead, before Conary hit two three’s to give the Panthers a 10-7 lead at the quarter break. Jordan Pomerleua hit three big three’s for the Raiders in the 2nd frame, and Mariah Chenard one to pace Winslow to a 23-19 halftime lead.
Vose opened the 3rd frame with eight straight points to give Medomak a four-point lead. Winslow retook the lead on a Pomerleau three and Chenard hoop. Robbins connected at the line for a three-point play to put the Panthers up by two. Winslow went up by two, before Vose scored on an Emily Leach pass to tie the score. Tieva Campbell recaptured the lead for the Raiders. H-Belloguet scored on a Vose feed to tie the score 34-34 at the end of three.
Hannah Doble gave Winslow their last lead of the ball game at the start of the final period. Vose sank a huge three and made good at the foul line for a four-point play, then drove inside to give the Panthers the lead for good. Vose went on to score 13 in the period.
Winslow held a 34-24 edge in rebounding, but Medomak tipped the balance with solid shooting and defense, forcing 19 turnovers.
Scoring for the Panthers were Vose 27 (5S,3A), Conary 10 (5R), Robbins 7 (6R), Leach 3, Taylor Simmons 2 (2R,2S), and H-Belloguet 3 (3R,4A). Scoring for Winslow were Pomerleau 12, Ferry 10 (11R), Chenard 9 (9R), Campbell 6, Meghan Richards 2, Devin Fitzgibbons 2 and Hannah Doble 2.
