Medomak Valley JV girls’ soccer team wrapped up their 2010 season with a .500 record. The highlight of the Lady Panthers’ season was a four game win streak in the middle of the season. Medomak won five games, beating Leavitt 3-1, Lincoln Academy 2-1, Mt.View 4-0, Maranacook 2-0, and Belfast 3-0.
Sammie Griffin led the offense with seven goals and two assists. Brooke Benedict added four goals, one assist, Taylor Mason three goals, two assists, Heidi Obuchon one goal, two assists, Charity Hoch one goal, one assist, and Desiree Leary, Taylor Simmons and Elise Wallace with an assist each.
“McKenzie Belcher, Desiree Leary and Taylor Mason did a tremendous job playing wing midfielder. That position requires them to play both offense and defense,” coach Scott Hastings said.
“The defense was anchored by sweepers Dani Hunt and Amanda Young. Both saved several scoring chances with their hustle and aggressiveness. Desiree Benner, Abby Maguire, Haley Mank, and Taylor Mason rotated as wing fullbacks and did a great job stopping attacks.
Center fullbacks Heidi Obuchon, Jessica Prescott, Taylor Simmons, and Elise Wallace played very well in JV games after seeing considerable time in the varsity game.
Goalkeepers Kara Weiske and Heidi Obuchon (and a few others, as well) frustrated opponents with their great saves. “The team finished with a total of 51 saves on the season,” Hastings added.
