Medomak Valley softball improved to 7-0 in a classic pitcher’s duel, extra inning win over the Black Bears on Monday. Desireee Benner collected the win (7H, 6B, 6K), and Sarah Boynton the loss (8H, 6K, 2B). Ericka Christensen, who has had the hot bat for the Panthers this spring, singled in the winning run in the 8th.
The Bears took a 1-0 lead in the 1st inning and held it for three innings. Kasey Benner drove in the tying run in the top of the 4th.
Hitting for Medomak were Lindsay Ranquist with two and Vanessa Davis, Heidi Obuchon, K. Benner, Christensen and Amanda Hendrickson-Belloguet one each. Hitting for Maranacook were Boynton and Kelsy Collins 2 each, and Heidi Shaw, Jesse Smith and Ashley Michaud 1 each.
Medomak scored 2 runs in the 1st. Vanessa Davis walked on an illegal pitch, and Lindsay Ranquist singled to set up an RBI sacrifice fly to Kasey Benner and RBI single to Ericka Christensen. They added 3 runs in the 2nd on a bases loaded sacrifice fly to Mallory Conary and 2 run single to Ranquist. The Lady Panthers scored 2 more runs in the 3rd on singles to Maria Ennamorati, D. Benner and Davis (2 RBI). Medomak scored a run in the 5th. Heidi Obuchon and Jenna Tracy singled to set up an RBI error to Vose. They added a run in the 6th when Ranquist singled, stole to third and scored on a K. Benner single. The Panthers boosted their tally to 12 with 3 runs in the top of the 7th. Alanna Vose doubled, Dani Hunt walked, Davis reached on a fielder’s choice, Amanda Hendrickson-Belloquet drove in a run on a ground out and Ranquist hit a 2 run inside the park homerun.
“She crushed it. It would have been out at our park,” coach Richard Vannah said.
Defensively, Vanessa Davis made a running catch in right field. “It was their only ball out of the infield,” Vannah said.
Ranquist led Medomak at the plate, going 4 for 5 with a homerun. K. Benner and H-Belloquet added 2 singles each, Vose a double, and Davis, Christensen, Tracy, and Ennamorati a single each.
