12th seed Medomak Valley upset 5th seed Old Town Saturday afternoon in an East Class B preliminary match-up.
After a scoreless first half the Coyotes scored less than five minutes into the second half. Jared Mank knotted the score when he collected a defensive clear and booted home from 30 yards.
Neither team could score again in regulation or two 15 minute overtime periods, forcing the game to be decided on penalty kicks. Panther keeper Noah Beck, who had a stellar performance all game, stopped Old Town’s first PK. Zidane McMrrin put the pressure on when he made Medomak’s first PK. Old Town rang the post on their next two attempts. Sam Morril scored to put the Panthers up by two. Old Town scored their fourth PK, but Patrick Madden ended the standoff when he connected on Medomak’s fourth PK attempt.
