Medomak Valley’s Stefan Nicholls (130) placed third and Lincoln Academy’s Dalton Peaslee (285) fourth at the Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference (KVAC) championships at Mt. Ararat High School on Saturday.
Camden won the combined Class A and B KVAC team title with 249.5, followed by Belfast 217.5, Mt. Blue 153, Morse 124, Skowhegan 118, Cony 105.5, Brewer 93, Mt.Ararat 84.5, Gardiner 84, Oak Hill 71, Erskine 69.5, MCI 50, Medomak 39, Lincoln 36, Edward Little 30, Brunswick 26, Mt.View 18, Bangor 16, Nokomis 10, Winslow 9, Oxford Hills 4, Lawrence 1 and Messalonskee 0.
Nicholls (MV130) pinned Paul Willette (Win) in 19 seconds, beat Robbie Kiah (Bre) by 21-6 technical fall, lost a 13-10 decision to Jared Jensen (Bru), then dropped down to the consolation bracket. Nicholls then beat Jeff Abram (Gar) by 11-6 decision, and won by forfeit over Connor Dufour (Con) for third place. Nicholls has a 29-9 record with 17 pins. Sarah Alley (LA 130) lost an 8-2 decision to Abram and was pinned by Dustin Whitcomb (Mt.V) in 3:15.
Dylan Flint (LA 152) was pined by Cameron Campbell (EA) in 3:23, and by Jacob Cooms (Sko) in 4:32. Kody Wallace (MV 152) was pinned by Mikal Reynolds (Co) in 4:39, won by pin over Trevor Belaire (OaH) in 22 seconds, and was eliminated by fall in 2:05 by Campbell.
Blake Hay (LA 160) was pinned by Alec Temple (Mt.A) in 1:38, and by Kyle Calvo (win) in 2:14.
Brandon Holloway (MV 171) pinned Cody Noyes (Bre) in 2:50, beat Nate Geoffrion (LA) by 16-1 tech fall, and was pinned by Anthony Batty (CH) in 1:30. Geoffrion was pinned by Steven Bang (EDL) in 3:25 before being eliminated by Holloway.
Sam Stone (LA 215) pinned Kevin Castonguay (Bre) in 2:25, lost a 4-2 decision to Nick Wells (OaH), pinned Sean Cote (Win) in 1:20 pinned Philip Obert (Co) in 51, and was eliminated in the consolation semi-finals by 9-8 decision by Joseph Metcalf (Mt.B). Dylan Look (MV 215) beat Cote by 7-1 decision, was pinned by Rhett Chase (CH) in 1:47, pinned Castonguay in 1:18, pinned Tyler Sally (Gar) in 4:17 and was eliminated in the consolation semi-finals by Victor Irwin by fall in 50 seconds.
Dalton Peaslee (LA 285) pinned Dustin Edwards (OxH) in 3:08, lost a 4-3 decision to Aaron Mitchell (Mor), pinned Aaron Lint (Win) in 56 seconds, and pinned Gabe Delano (MV) in 4:48 to advance to the consolation finals. Peaslee forfeited to Ivan Leet for fourth place. Delano (MV) drew a bye in the first round, was pinned by Leet in 2:57, and pinned Ben Kormann (Mt.V) in 18 seconds, before being eliminated by Peaslee.
