Medomak Valley boys’ basketball team crushed Rockland 81-45 Tuesday night to pick up their first win of the season. John Murray scored the opening basket on a towering shot from behind the arch to give the Panthers the lead for good. Murray had a “really big night” coach Nick DePatsy said. Murray scored 27 points (six off the offensive glass), and had 12 rebounds, two assists, one steal and one block.
Medomak dominated the boards, holding a 44-18 advantage in rebounding. The Panthers held the Tigers to just three baskets in second-half action, and did not give up a single hoop in the final period.
The Panthers jumped out to a 21-13 first quarter lead, with five players getting on the boards. Murray and Zach Judkins scored back-to-back hoops and Isaac Durkee settled a shot at the line to open the second quarter to give Medomak a 13-point lead.
Rockland went on a seven point run, led by two hoops from Bronson Philbrick to cut the lead to six. The Panthers built the lead to 10, before Tiger Ryan Ecker hit a big three at the buzzer to cut the lead to seven, 37-30 at the half.
Medomak netted 21 points in the third, while holding Rockland to 10 to put the game out of reach at the end of three, 58-40. Murray scored nine and Isaac Durkee six to lead the rally. Nine Panther players combined for 23 points in the final frame.

Scoring for Rockland were Ecker 11, Shea Davenport 10, Philbrick 10, Dave Harrison 6, Isaiah S-Patterson 2, Hunter Grindle 2, Seth Batty 2, Derek Miller 1 and Connor Clement 1.
Gardiner led 13-11 at the quarter, 28-25 at the half and 43-40 at the end of three.
