Sean Perry won the 13th annual Alvin Sproul Samoset 10K road race on Aug. 14 in 38:29, beating out nearest competitor and first female finisher Megan Peterson by 39 seconds. Darren Winchenbach, Waldoboro, was the second male finisher in 41:49.
The race, held in conjunction with Olde Bristol Days, benefits the Samoset Fire and Rescue departments, and was renamed the Alvin Sproul Samoset 10K after the death of race founder Alvin Sproul. His widow Carlene Sproul started the race, which had 90 finishers.
